Winter road trip: Duluth, Gooseberry Falls State Park, Lake Superior
For New Year's weekend, we decided on a good-old-fashioned messaround (Winston style) with our cameras on the north shore of Lake Superior. We made it as far north as Gooseberry Falls State Park (Two Harbors, MN), and with the expectation of snowfall and less-than-ideal road conditions, decided it was far enough.
When we arrived the snow started to fall (which made photos a little difficult, but a different kind of challenge). Waiting for us was the discovery of baby waves, ice-covered boulders, beautiful red rocks along the shoreline, driftwood drumsticks, and a cozy shelter for lunch. A short road trip and a little bit of outdoor exploration always does the heart good. Even better when in the company of these goons:
For supper: Duluth! We ate at Grizzly's (it was alright), and enjoyed drinks at Vikre Distillery (most delightful, as usual). Between the hours of 11pm and 1am, we found a few more fun corners for shooting. The last pic had a 6-second shutter speed... we had a hard time standing still. :)
